If you live in Northern VA you felt the rock and rolling of our earthquake a couple of months ago. There are numerous reports of hidden chimney damage. Especially if you have a woodburning fireplace, we urge you to have it checked out by a certified chimney inspector before you fire it up again. Insist that the inspector use a video camera system to "scope" the fireplace. Many woodburners have a masonry liner that are easily cracked by a disturbance such as an earthquake and a crack can lead to a chimney fire and loss of your home. So, don't take a chance. Pay a few bucks and keep your family safe!
